On what should have been a day of celebration, her 35th birthday, Dekeesha McPhearson’s life was tragically cut short. The Black female was fatally shot on October 1, 2020, at an apartment complex on Stanley Drive in Little Rock, Arkansas. Around 1:30 p.m., the sound of multiple gunshots echoed through the neighborhood, prompting calls to the police. When officers arrived, they found McPhearson suffering from gunshot wounds.
She was rushed to a local hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal, and she was pronounced dead.
The heartbreak of her death was compounded by the revelation that McPhearson was pregnant at the time she was killed. The preliminary investigation suggested a targeted attack, with reports indicating that two men approached the rear of the apartment building and opened fire. The senseless act of violence not only took Dekeesha's life but also that of her unborn child, leaving a void in the lives of her eight children and her grieving family.
In the months that followed, the Little Rock Police Department continued its investigation, which eventually led to a significant development. On December 7, 2020, authorities arrested 17-year-old Davareus Clark in connection with the homicide. Clark was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, bringing a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Dekeesha and her family. The community was left to mourn a mother, a daughter, and a sister, whose life was violently ended on a day that should have been filled with joy.
