On a Sunday evening, February 28, 2021, the life of 23-year-old Xavier Crosby was tragically cut short in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store on West Markham Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. Crosby, a Black male from the nearby city of Conway, was found with a gunshot wound and rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Before he passed, he was able to tell officers that he had arranged to meet someone in the parking lot to sell marijuana.
The investigation
into the homicide led to the identification of two suspects. The first, 24-year-old Jeremy Rashaud Jefferson, was arrested in March 2021 and charged with capital murder. He entered a plea of not guilty. Following Jefferson's arrest, a second suspect, 21-year-old Matya Sisa, was also identified and charged with capital murder. After a period of being sought by law enforcement, Sisa turned himself in to the police on May 20, 2021. Both men were subsequently held in the Pulaski County jail in connection with Crosby's death.
Xavier, a graduate of North Little Rock High School, was remembered as a beloved father, son, and fiancé. He had a passion for photography, fashion design, and cooking, which had led him to start his own food business. His death left behind his fiancée and their two children. His body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy as the investigation into his murder continued.
