In the early hours of April 20, 2022, a dispute over something as ordinary as missing tools escalated into a tragedy that ended the life of 22-year-old Terrance Calloway, a Black male from Little Rock, Arkansas. At approximately 1:22 a.m., the quiet of the morning at 8406 Dreher Lane was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. When Little Rock police officers arrived at the scene, they found Calloway lying in the driveway, suffering from a serious gunshot wound to his leg.
The investigation
into the shooting quickly revealed that an argument had taken place. During the course of this heated disagreement about the whereabouts of some tools, 60-year-old Theodore Patrick retrieved a firearm. What began as a verbal altercation took a fatal turn when Patrick shot Calloway. The young man was rushed to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, his injuries deemed life-threatening. He was immediately taken into surgery in an attempt to save his life.
Despite the efforts of the medical team, Terrance Calloway succumbed to his injuries. In the wake of his death, the legal consequences for the accused escalated significantly. Theodore Patrick, who was arrested at the scene, was initially charged with first-degree battery. However, following Calloway's passing, the charges against him were upgraded to the more severe charge of first-degree murder on April 22, 2022, forever linking a dispute over tools to the loss of a young life.
