In the early morning hours of June 9, 2019, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 27-year-old Jeremy Chambers was tragically cut short. Responding to a call of a shooting shortly before 2:00 a.m., Little Rock police officers arrived at the Spanish Valley Apartments on Baseline Road to a grim scene. They discovered Jeremy Chambers in a breezeway of the apartment complex, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Medical personnel were summoned, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. This violent act marked the 18th homicide in the city of Little Rock for that year.
The investigation into the shooting death of Jeremy Chambers led police to identify a suspect, Leonard Piggee. A few days after the fatal shooting, Piggee was taken into custody by the Little Rock Police Department. Initially facing a charge of first-degree murder, the legal process that followed would span over three years, a delay attributed in part to the COVID-19 pandemic and continuances filed by the defense. This extended period was a trying time for Jeremy's grieving family, who remained steadfast in their pursuit of justice for their loved one.
Ultimately, on September 19, 2022, Leonard Piggee, then 42, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder in the death of Jeremy Chambers. As a result of his guilty plea, Piggee was sentenced to 20 years in prison, to be followed by 10 years of parole. For Jeremy's family, the conclusion of the legal proceedings brought a sense of justice, though it could never erase the pain of their loss. Jeremy was remembered as a caring young man who grew up in the church, an aspiring rapper, and a former student of Stuttgart High School. He left behind his parents, Robert and Beverly Chambers, his wife, Casandra Chambers, and their two children.
