Sixteen-year-old Glenna Jean White, known to her loved ones as Gennie, was a young woman with a turbulent home life. Her mother later acknowledged her own struggles with mental health and alcohol, which led to Glenna being raised by her grandmother for the first decade of her life. Glenna also faced her own mental health challenges, including what her mother described as multiple personalities, and had a history of running away. She was last seen wearing a green tank top, black pants, and black shoes adorned with red hearts. Distinctive features included piercings on her ears, nose, and lip, a scar on her left wrist, and a yin-yang sunburst tattoo on her right arm. On the night of June 2, 2009, Glenna and her boyfriend had run away and were staying at the Smith Township home of Robert Lindsey Moore. Moore, who was in his late 30s at the time, provided alcohol to the teenagers. The evening took a dark turn when Glenna, clad only in a sheet, woke her friend, alleging that Moore had attempted to sexually assault her. An enraged Moore demanded that Glenna and her boyfriend leave his residence. He then insisted on driving Glenna home himself. Despite a friend's attempt to accompany them, Moore insisted she stay behind, and he and Glenna left in his girlfriend's car. It was the last time Glenna was ever seen alive. About an hour and a half later, Moore returned to the house alone, his knuckles "busted up" and his clothes splattered with blood from the waist up and muddy from the knees down. He claimed he had been "jumped" by three men and that Glenna had jumped out of his car at a stop sign and run off. For years, Glenna's disappearance was classified as a runaway case, and valuable time was lost. The investigation gained traction over a year later when Glenna's friend, who had witnessed the events of that night, saw a missing person flyer and came forward to the police. This shifted the focus of the investigation to homicide. In December 2021, Robert Lindsey Moore was arrested and charged with aggravated murder and murder in connection with Glenna's disappearance. It was revealed that Moore had a prior conviction for involuntary manslaughter in the 1993 beating death of another woman. Moore's trial for Glenna's murder in the spring of 2022 resulted in an acquittal on the aggravated murder charge, but the jury was hung on the murder charge. A retrial was planned, but in a significant turn of events, the murder charge was dismissed without prejudice in September 2025. This decision came after a judge ruled that evidence of Moore's prior manslaughter conviction could not be presented to the jury. The prosecution stated that further investigation was necessary. Glenna White's body has never been found, but authorities suspect foul play was involved in her disappearance. The case remains a painful and unresolved mystery for her family and community.
