In the early morning hours of July 7, 2021, the sound of what some residents mistook for fireworks echoed through the end of Omega Street in Eldorado, Arkansas. The reality, however, was far more grim. Responding to a call at approximately 2 a.m., officers from the El Dorado Police Department discovered 21-year-old Jacoby 'Lil Coby' Jawan Edwards, a Black male, lying unresponsive in the street. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported Edwards to the Medical Center of South Arkansas, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. The community was left in shock by the violent end to such a young life. Edwards, a father to three children, was a graduate of El Dorado High School and worked as a scaffold builder.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation was launched by the El Dorado Police Department. However, details regarding a potential motive, or any individuals who may have been involved, were not publicly released. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Jacoby Edwards, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into his death remains ongoing as his family and community continue to await answers and seek justice for his untimely passing.
