In the late hours of a Thursday night in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the lives of two young men were tragically cut short. On April 27, 2017, police responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building on South Blake Street. There, they discovered the bodies of 26-year-old Cameron Haywood and 28-year-old Dimarco Wylie. Both men had sustained apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators found Haywood on his back near a stairway, with a revolver lying next to
him. Not far away, Wylie was found with a handgun beneath his body. The initial theory from the Pine Bluff Police Department was that the two men may have shot each other in a fatal exchange. This assumption was based on the positioning of the bodies and the presence of the firearms at the scene. The bodies were sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for autopsies to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
For a time, it seemed the case might be a tragic, self-contained incident of mutual violence. However, in February of 2018, the investigation took a new turn. The Pine Bluff Police Department announced they were reopening the case, signaling that their initial theory was now in question. Authorities indicated the possibility that another individual may have been involved in the shooting that resulted in the deaths of both Haywood and Wylie. Despite this development and a reward offered by Wylie's family for information, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths. The case officially remains under investigation.
