Markee Avery, a 36-year-old Black male from Pine Bluff, was shot on the afternoon of Friday, July 18, 2025, outside a residence at 1212 South Spruce Street. Officers responded around 3:21 p.m. and found him lying in the yard with an apparent gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley. Initial police updates identified the location as the 1200 block of South Spruce and described an active homicide investigation into the fatal shooting.
