In the early morning hours of Halloween in 2014, a scene initially perceived as a routine traffic accident on the corner of 12th and Cherry streets in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, would soon reveal a more sinister story. Police officers were dispatched to the location just after 12:30 a.m. to find a white Buick Rendezvous that had collided with a water hydrant and a utility pole.
Inside the vehicle was 57-year-old Claudell Turner, a male resident of the city.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers discovered that Turner was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was still alive at the time but was unable to communicate with the first responders. An officer began administering CPR until an ambulance arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts to save him, Claudell Turner's condition worsened, and he succumbed to his injuries at 12:59 a.m. What had appeared to be a simple car crash was now being investigated as a homicide.
In the days and years that followed, the Pine Bluff Police Department's investigation into Turner's death has yet to lead to an arrest. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the case.
