In the early hours of Christmas Eve in 2023, the life of 41-year-old William Earl Burnett, a Black male from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was tragically cut short. Just after 2:00 a.m. on December 24th, officers with the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to a call of a shooting at a residence located at 1313 S. Blake Street. Upon their arrival, the scene was eerily quiet, with no victim in sight.
However, the presence of spent shell casings and trails of blood hinted at the violence that had just occurred.
A short time later, at approximately 2:23 a.m., a call came in from an off-duty officer at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A man, later identified as William Earl Burnett, had been brought to the hospital with a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Burnett succumbed to his injury. His death marked the 27th homicide in the city of Pine Bluff for the year.
The Pine Bluff Police Department's detective division immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
