In the small town of Gentry, Arkansas, a story of fortune and tragedy unfolded at the La Huerta restaurant. Fidel Mercado Reyes, a 45-year-old man, was working in the kitchen on the morning of November 10, 2021, when his life was abruptly cut short. A new employee, who had only started working at the restaurant the day before, fatally shot Reyes in the back of the head. The sudden violence shattered the morning calm of the local eatery, leaving fellow employees in shock.
