In Little Rock, Arkansas, on the afternoon of Friday, November 2, 2018, a domestic disturbance call to the police shattered the quiet of a neighborhood on Sunflower Drive. The caller, in a state of distress, informed the dispatcher that her son had just shot her brother. This call set in motion a response that would uncover a family tragedy. When officers arrived at the residence, they found 36-year-old Tobias Bushong inside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical
services were dispatched to the scene and quickly transported Tobias to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced deceased. While first responders were attending to the victim, other officers located the suspected shooter, who had reportedly left the residence on foot. They were able to take the suspect into custody without incident.
The investigation that followed identified the suspect as Tobias's 16-year-old nephew, D'anthony Bushong. After being transported to the Major Crimes Division for questioning and a search of the residence was conducted for evidence, the case was presented to the Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. A decision was made to charge the teenager as an adult. D'anthony Bushong was subsequently charged with Murder in the 1st Degree and transported to the Pulaski County Regional Jail. The investigation continued after the arrest to uncover the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
