In the late hours of a Saturday in Conway, Arkansas, the life of David Hood II, a 40-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short. On February 26, 2022, near the intersection of Neal and Garland Streets, shots rang out, leaving Hood with a fatal gunshot wound. Emergency services arrived to find Hood injured, and he was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to them.
Known affectionately as 'Lil David,' he was a respected professional American Bully dog breeder and a member of the American Bully Kennel Club. His passion for his dogs was evident in his business, Captain Hood's Kennel.
The Conway Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting, which soon yielded significant developments. Just days after the incident, on March 1, 2022, authorities made their first arrest. Thirty-year-old Tyrius Harris was taken into custody and faced a litany of serious charges, including capital murder, committing a terroristic act, and aggravated assault. The investigation did not stop there, as police continued to pursue leads in the case.
Less than a week later, a second suspect was apprehended. On March 7, 2022, 21-year-old Kevasia Tate was arrested in Helena, Arkansas, in connection with Hood's death. Tate was charged with first-degree murder, committing a terroristic act, and aggravated assault. The swift arrests of Harris and Tate brought a measure of progress to the investigation, though authorities continued to seek information from the public to ensure all aspects of the case were thoroughly examined. The investigation remained ongoing as the Conway Police Department worked to bring justice for David Hood and his family.
