On November 5, 2022, the life of 30-year-old Johntavian 'Tae' O'Neal Hill was tragically cut short in his El Dorado, Arkansas home. A Black male, Hill was discovered by responding officers lying on his living room floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The preliminary report from the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory would later reveal the grim details: he had been shot ten times, nine times in the back and once to the back of his head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the violent death pointed to a personal conflict, leading law enforcement to two suspects in Oklahoma. One of the men taken into custody was Hill's own stepbrother, 36-year-old Broderick L. Carter. His apprehension was not a simple affair; it concluded after an eight-hour standoff with police in Oklahoma City on November 6, 2022. The second suspect, 30-year-old Charles E. Mitchell III, was arrested two days later on November 8, 2022. Investigators believe that the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Hill and Carter.
Both Carter and Mitchell faced a string of serious charges for their alleged roles in Hill's death. The charges included capital murder, aggravated residential burglary, and possession of a firearm by certain persons.
