Gilbert Arthur Batten Jr., 24, male, was killed in the early morning hours of September 20, 1968, inside a house at 3724 Ohio Street in Omaha. The killing took place shortly after 3:00 a.m., ending a tense evening of confrontations tied to a simmering dispute over a woman named Judy Dunbar. Earlier on September 19, Ronald Eugene Kirby had come by the Ohio Street residence at least twice looking for Dunbar and warning James Lynch, who lived there with his four children, to stay away from her.
