In the winter of 2024, the life of 17-year-old Dominique DAndre Watson, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On the evening of November 19, a burst of gunfire erupted near the intersection of Silver Spring Drive and Appleton Avenue, leaving Dominique fatally wounded and two others injured. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find that Dominique had succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy would later reveal he had been shot twice in the back.
The incident that led to Dominique's untimely death began as a transaction to purchase a firearm. Dominique, accompanied by two others, had arranged to meet an individual in a shopping center parking lot. When the seller, later identified as another 17-year-old, entered their vehicle, the exchange took a violent turn. The seller allegedly attempted to take the money and the gun, leading to approximately eight gunshots being fired. In the ensuing chaos, Dominique was struck, and the shooter fled the scene. The two surviving victims managed to drive to a hospital for treatment.
In the weeks that followed, the Milwaukee Police Department investigated the homicide. Their efforts led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male in January 2025, following a police chase. The suspect has been charged as an adult with nine counts, including second-degree reckless homicide, for his role in Dominique's death. His bond was set at $200,000, and he awaits further court proceedings.
Family and friends gathered to mourn the loss of Dominique on December 5, 2024, at a visitation and celebration of his life. He was remembered as a young man whose warmth and kindness had touched the lives of many in his community. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence.
