Michael D. Jones. According to witness accounts detailed in the criminal complaint, Jones was seen exiting a car with Millan on the afternoon of the shooting. Witnesses reported that Jones then shot at Millan, causing him to fall to the ground. In a brutal final act, Jones allegedly stood over Millan and fired three more times at point-blank range. The vehicle that had dropped them off was seen leaving the scene.
The day after the shooting, law enforcement apprehended Michael D. Jones following a one-mile car chase. The pursuit ended when Jones, who had disregarded multiple traffic signals, crashed his vehicle. A gun was recovered from the scene of the crash. Jones was subsequently charged with first-degree reckless homicide and three other felonies in connection with Millan's death. His trial took place in March 2023, where he was ultimately convicted of four felonies, including first-degree intentional homicide. The jury reached its verdict after deliberating for only 40 minutes. During the trial, Jones had testified in his own defense, claiming that a woman in the car had set him up to be robbed and was the one who had fired the shots.
