Mohamed Yusuf Mohamed, 21, a Somali male, was shot on Thanksgiving evening, November 28, 2024, inside an apartment building on the 700 block of Emerson Avenue North in Minneapolis and later died from his wounds. He was identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, which listed his residence as St. Paul and determined the manner of death to be homicide from a gunshot wound to the head.
Police were called a little after 6:00 p.m. and found him gravely injured inside the building.
He was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead that evening; the medical examiner recorded the time of death as 6:39 p.m. The slaying unfolded on a holiday when families gathered nearby, and city leaders noted the violence had cut through the quiet of the day.
Investigators said early evidence indicated the shooting happened inside the apartment and that the assailant fled before officers arrived.
