In the early morning hours of July 6, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the pre-dawn quiet in Minneapolis, leading to the tragic death of 20-year-old Hanad Mohamed Ali. A Black male from the nearby city of Columbia Heights, Ali was with another man in the 400 block of South 15th Avenue when they were approached by a group of individuals. Without warning, the group opened fire on the two men.
Despite being gravely wounded, Ali and his companion managed to get into a vehicle and drive to
the Hennepin Healthcare emergency room, arriving at approximately 2:40 a.m. Shortly after his arrival, Hanad Mohamed Ali succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. His companion, who was also shot, was listed in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Minneapolis Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, which was ruled a homicide. However, the identities of the suspects remain unknown, and no arrests have been made in connection with the killing of Hanad Mohamed Ali. His death marked the 47th homicide in Minneapolis that year. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible.
