On the afternoon of November 22, 2024, in Brockton, Massachusetts, 54-year-old Frantzy Jeanty, a Black / African American man, was fatally shot in his apartment at 125 Pleasant Street. The incident, which authorities later stated did not appear to be a random act of violence, unfolded at approximately 3:23 p.m. Brockton Police responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive male with visible bleeding and, upon arrival, discovered Jeanty deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The subsequent investigation, led by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, quickly identified two suspects: 23-year-old Rivaldo Jean and 21-year-old Imani Cort. Surveillance footage from near the apartment building was instrumental in their identification. The footage showed a white Audi sedan, registered to Cort's mother, parking nearby. A male and a female, later identified as Jean and Cort, were seen exiting the vehicle wearing dark clothing and face coverings.
The investigation revealed a coordinated and brazen home invasion. Surveillance video allegedly shows Jean climbing a fire escape to enter the building through a second-floor window. He then proceeded to the first floor to let Cort into the building through a rear door. Together, they went to Jeanty's apartment, where Cort knocked on the door. When Jeanty opened it, Jean allegedly forced his way inside. Shortly after, several gunshots were heard.
Following the shooting, Jean was reportedly seen on video leaving the apartment with a suitcase, which investigators believe contained a safe with thousands of dollars in cash. The two suspects then fled the scene in the white Audi. Authorities tracked the vehicle to a location in Middleborough, where Cort was arrested on November 23. Jean was taken into custody in Dorchester on November 25.
Both Jean and Cort have been arraigned on multiple charges, including murder and armed home invasion. Jean faces a longer list of charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Both have been ordered held without bail. Frantzy Jeanty, who was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, worked as a security guard for Allied Security.
