On a Sunday evening in New Orleans, what began as a day like any other ended in tragedy for Steve Brumfield, a 47-year-old Black male. On December 1, 2024, in the historic Central City neighborhood, the sound of gunfire shattered the night's calm. When first responders arrived at the scene in the 2100 block of Louisiana Avenue around 8:25 p.m., they found Brumfield unresponsive.
