On December 1, 2024, at approximately 8:25 p.m., New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) officers responded to a report of a "man down" in the 2100 block of Louisiana Avenue, located in the Milan neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 47-year-old Steven Brumfield unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) pronounced him dead at the scene.
