In the close-knit Leonidas neighborhood of New Orleans, a tragic fire on January 15, 2023, claimed the life of 64-year-old Larry Williams, a beloved figure known to many as 'Nuck.' The blaze erupted on a Sunday night in a backyard shed, a familiar and cherished gathering spot for Williams and his friends, often referred to as a 'mancave.' That evening, Williams was enjoying a football game with his close friend and the homeowner, Erroll Manuel.
Manuel had briefly stepped inside his
house, leaving Williams to watch the remainder of the game. Shortly after, neighbors were startled by the sound of an explosion and saw flames engulfing the shed. The New Orleans Fire Department responded to the one-alarm fire, and upon extinguishing the flames, they made a somber discovery. Williams was found deceased on a couch inside the shed, near a space heater that is being looked at as a possible cause of the fire. It is believed he may have fallen asleep while smoking.
The investigation into the exact cause of the fire is ongoing, and as of now, there have been no arrests or mention of any suspects in connection with the incident. The loss of Larry Williams, described by his sister Rosalee as a loving person, has been deeply felt throughout the community. He was a man who found great joy in the simple pleasure of watching Saints games with his lifelong friends in the very place where his life was unexpectedly cut short. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, including his daughter Kanisha Davis and his four grandchildren, and the many friends who shared in his life and laughter.
