Seth David Chedville, an 18-year-old White male from Belle Chasse, Louisiana, was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, passion for extreme sports, and a contagious smile that brought joy to those around him. A popular dirt bike stunt rider, he was part of the "Bike Life" community and was remembered by loved ones for his effervescent spirit and ability to fill a house with happiness. His family's attorney recalled him as "a boy that had a beautiful smile.
As soon as you met him, you loved him."
On the afternoon of January 14, 2024, Seth was with a group of fellow stunt riders at a Shell gas station at the corner of Chef Menteur Highway and Downman Road in New Orleans East. At around 4:10 p.m., he was sitting on the back of an ATV at a gas pump when a silver Mitsubishi SUV pulled up. Multiple people inside the vehicle opened fire on the assembled group in the parking lot. Seth and two other people, a male and a female, were struck by the gunfire. Seth was rushed to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries the following day, January 15, 2024.
New Orleans Police Department detectives investigating the homicide soon connected the shooting to a separate double shooting in the Central Business District that had occurred just days later. While probing an alleged auto-theft ring, investigators executed a raid on a home on Skyview Drive. Inside the silver Mitsubishi used in the gas station attack, police found a debit card bearing the name of Bryceson Jones. During the raid, officers also seized multiple firearms, three of which were later confirmed through ballistics testing to be matches to the weapons used in the shooting that killed Seth.
On January 25, 2024, police arrested Bryceson Jones, a 21-year-old Black male, in connection with the murder. Jones was already incarcerated at the Orleans Parish Justice Center on unrelated charges when he was re-booked on one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder for the gas station shooting. In a preliminary hearing in February 2024, a judge found probable cause to proceed with the charges against him.
Subsequently, prosecutors secured indictments against four individuals, including Robbie Johnson, on charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder for their alleged roles in the attack. In March 2026, Orleans Criminal District Court Judge Camille Buras ruled that a handgun recovered from Johnson during the investigation was admissible as evidence. Prosecutors stated the pistol was ballistically tied to shell casings found at the scene of the shooting.
As of March 2026, the case remains pending in Orleans Criminal District Court.
