In the late hours of a Monday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, tragedy befell 35-year-old Courtney Hart, a Black male known to friends and family as 'Citi.' On December 16, 2024, at approximately 10 p.m., Hart was on the threshold of his own home in the 13600 block of Kenner Avenue, near Perkins Road, when his life was abruptly cut short. An unidentified individual approached him just as he was about to enter his apartment and opened fire.
Struck by the gunfire, Hart attempted to flee
his assailant. He ran from the scene, managing to make it a few blocks before collapsing on Metairie Drive from the severity of his injuries. Emergency responders arrived to find him and quickly transported him to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Courtney Hart succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting. According to a witness at the scene, the gunman fled after shooting Hart. As of the latest reports, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the case, and no arrests have been made. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
That same night, in a separate and unrelated incident, another man, 36-year-old Sedrick Davis, was also fatally shot in Baton Rouge. Detectives with the Baton Rouge Police Department are investigating that case, which occurred around the same time in the 9900 block of Merganzer Avenue. As with Hart's case, officials have not yet identified any suspects or a motive in Davis's death.
