In the early hours of November 22, 2024, Marietta police officers near the Costa Mar Seafood and Grill restaurant on Franklin Gateway heard a gunshot around 12:15 a.m. Upon investigation, they discovered 36-year-old Marietta resident Jankar Araque-Ovalles lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate attempts to render aid, Araque-Ovalles succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
