In the early evening of May 2, 2025, a verbal dispute at the Westminster Square Apartments on Windy Hill Road in Marietta, Georgia, escalated into a fatal shooting. Micah Lamar Bender, a 21-year-old African American male from Lithia Springs, was found by Cobb County police suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers responded to the scene around 7:15 p.m.
and Bender was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators quickly identified 24-year-old Samir Bennett of Marietta as the primary suspect in the shooting. The altercation between Bennett and Bender reportedly began as an argument before Bennett allegedly fired multiple shots, fatally wounding Bender. Bennett, a convicted felon who was wanted on other criminal charges at the time of the incident, was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Bennett was booked into the Cobb County jail and is facing multiple charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
