In a tragic turn of events in Marietta, Georgia, a young life was cut short. Daryus Johnson, a 19-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in an accidental shooting at the Bentley Manor Apartments. The incident involved his roommate, Elyjah Marrow, who was also 19 at the time and is the grandson of entertainer Ice-T.
According to police reports, Marrow was handling a handgun recklessly when it discharged, striking Johnson.
Emergency services were called to the apartment where they found Johnson unconscious. He was quickly transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Marietta Police Department stated that the shooting was a result of Marrow's failure to use proper firearm safety.
Following an investigation into the fatal incident, Elyjah Marrow was arrested and faced a series of charges. These included involuntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of a stolen firearm.
