In the summer of 2019, tragedy struck a Marietta, Georgia, mobile home park, leaving a family grieving and a community on edge. On August 17th, police responded to a call at a trailer on Westside Drive, where they made a grim discovery. Inside, they found the body of Mercedes De-Jesus Antunez Flores, a 43-year-old man from Honduras. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
As the investigation began, details started to emerge from witnesses in the area.
Some reported hearing several gunshots coming from the trailer. One individual recalled seeing a woman running from the residence shortly after the shots were fired. This unidentified woman was considered a witness in the case.
In the days that followed, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Cobb County Police Department, worked to piece together the events that led to Flores's death. Their efforts produced a sketch of a person of interest. The suspect was described as a light-skinned Black male, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, with a slender build. He was said to have short twists or dreadlocks and some facial hair on his chin.
Despite the release of the sketch and the public's help, the case grew cold. There have been no public announcements of any arrests or the identification of the suspect. The woman seen fleeing the scene has also not been publicly identified. The investigation into the death of Mercedes De-Jesus Antunez Flores remains open, another unsolved file in the records of the Cobb County Police Department.
