In the winter of 2024, just days before Christmas, the life of 18-year-old Terrell Oliver, a male resident of Southeast, D.C., was tragically cut short. On the evening of Wednesday, December 18th, at approximately 6:43 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at a residential building in the 2600 block of Stanton Road, SE. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Oliver inside, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, but tragically, they could find no signs of life, and he was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the violent death of the teenager. For months, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. The case remained active and ongoing as authorities searched for the person or persons responsible for this senseless act of violence that had shaken the community. The police department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and conviction in the case, urging the public to come forward with any knowledge they might have.
After a thorough, eight-month-long investigation, a significant breakthrough was made in the case. On Friday, August 29, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended 24-year-old Jordan Battle of Southwest, D.C. His arrest came as the result of a D.C. Superior Court Grand Jury Indictment. Mr. Battle was subsequently transported to the Homicide Branch and formally charged with First Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Terrell Oliver, bringing a measure of hope for justice to a grieving family and community.
