On the evening of Christmas Eve in 2024, a dispute in a New Haven, Connecticut neighborhood escalated to a fatal conclusion. Heriberto Cotto, a 43-year-old Hispanic male, was shot and killed following a heated argument. The incident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. in the vicinity of Edgewood Avenue and Beers Street. First responders arrived to find Cotto unresponsive with gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Cotto, who was born in Puerto Rico, was known for his passion for cars and was the founder and president of the Los Humildes Car Club. He is remembered by his family as a loving father, son, and brother. His death marked a tragic end to what should have been a festive holiday, leaving his family and community in mourning. Investigators at the scene collected ballistic evidence and secured Cotto's vehicle as they began to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
In the months following the incident, the New Haven Police Department's Major Crimes Unit diligently pursued leads. Their investigation led them to identify 32-year-old Issac Cintron as the primary suspect. In March 2025, authorities announced that they had secured an arrest warrant for Cintron in connection with Cotto's murder. At the time of the announcement, Cintron was already in custody in Pennsylvania on unrelated charges. Arrangements are being made for his extradition back to Connecticut to face charges for the death of Heriberto Cotto.
