On February 1, 2023, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Dallas police officers responded to a shooting call in the 2500 block of Marburg Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Erica Davis inside a residence with a fatal gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the initial investigation, 63-year-old Donnie Moreland, present at the scene, informed officers that Davis had shot herself, suggesting the incident was a suicide.
However, on February 6, the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and determined that Davis's death was a homicide. Subsequent investigations led detectives to conclude that Moreland was responsible for her death.
Following the issuance of a murder warrant, Moreland surrendered to Dallas police on February 7, 2023. He was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Erica Davis. She was known for her kind, gentle, and loving spirit, with an unconditional love that transcended boundaries. She is survived by her 11 children, her mother Lisa Davis, her father Otis McGhee, and other family members. Funeral services were held at Peaceful Rest Funeral Home in Dallas.
