On March 11, 2023, 47-year-old Aristeo Rivera-Monterrubio was tragically shot and killed outside his apartment in the 3200 block of Junction Street in South Dallas. At the time of the incident, Rivera-Monterrubio and a friend were relaxing and having beers in the courtyard of the apartment complex. His friend briefly left to use the bathroom, during which three unidentified individuals approached Rivera-Monterrubio.
One of the assailants, carrying a distinctive backpack with a shiny, reflective square or diamond shape, drew a firearm and confronted him. In an attempt to defend himself, Rivera-Monterrubio reached for his own weapon; however, the suspect shot him before he could react. The assailants then took Rivera-Monterrubio's gun and fled the scene on foot.
Surveillance footage captured images of the three suspects. The first suspect is described as a Black male with a distinctive backpack featuring a shiny, reflective square or diamond shape. The second suspect, also a Black male, was wearing a colorful jacket that stands out in the footage. The third suspect was wearing a mask and a hoodie, making identification more challenging. Dallas Police Detective Jeff Loeb has expressed hope that these distinctive items—the backpack and the colorful jacket—might help someone recognize the individuals involved.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Rivera-Monterrubio's death. The Dallas Police Department continues to seek assistance from the public in identifying and apprehending the suspects. Detective Loeb has urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in solving this case.
