On March 17, 2023, 19-year-old Donavon Jones was fatally shot near the Dallas-Duncanville border. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot of a convenience store on South Westmoreland Road. An altercation between 20-year-old Taquan Cooks and 23-year-old Jacory Simpson escalated when Cooks allegedly shot Simpson multiple times.
