On the evening of March 22, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., 18-year-old friends and high school seniors, Camren Stacy and Kamari Smith-Capps, were fatally shot outside the Uncle Lee Grocery Food Market on Dixon Avenue near Scyene Road in Dallas, Texas. Upon arrival, Dallas Police found Smith-Capps deceased in the driver's seat of their vehicle and Stacy on the ground nearby, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
The two teenagers, who had been inseparable since their freshman year at Berkner High School in Richardson, were known for their close bond. Smith-Capps was a former student, while Stacy was still enrolled at the time of their deaths. The community was left in shock, with their families expressing profound grief and calling for justice. Smith-Capps' mother, speaking through tears, described her son as having a bright future and being her best friend.
In the months following the incident, the investigation remained active. On July 26, 2024, Dallas Police arrested 19-year-old Deante Moore in connection with the double homicide. Moore was apprehended after a police operation involving a stolen vehicle led officers to an apartment complex on Golf Lakes Trail, culminating in an officer-involved shooting and multiple arrests. Moore was subsequently charged with capital murder for the deaths of Stacy and Smith-Capps.
Despite this arrest, the investigation is ongoing, as authorities believe there may be additional suspects involved.
