On the evening of May 6, 2023, 16-year-old Christopher Lenette was fatally shot while sitting in a parked car with his mother and younger brother outside their apartment complex in southeast Houston. The family had just returned from a laundromat and picking up pizza, and were seated in their vehicle at the Crystal Springs Apartments on Selinsky Road near Sesame Street when an unknown assailant fired multiple rounds into the car, striking Christopher in the head.
Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Christopher was a ninth-grade student at Sterling High School, located near his residence. His mother, Lenora Lenette, had been cautious about allowing him to go out due to the prevalent crime in their neighborhood, permitting outings only for school and football. She expressed profound grief and confusion over the incident, stating, "We had been sitting in the parking lot for maybe 15 minutes... I don't see a car or anybody, and they hit my son and killed him. He's just 16."
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Houston Police Department initiated an investigation but, as of the latest available information, had not identified a suspect or established a motive. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers anonymously. The lack of leads has left Christopher's family and the community seeking justice and answers for the senseless act of violence that claimed the young teenager's life.
