On May 13, 2023, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Houston police officers responded to reports of a shooting in a parking lot at 2901 Westridge Street, near NRG Park. Upon arrival, they discovered 25-year-old Cameron Fleeks suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Witnesses at the scene reported that Fleeks had been involved in a physical altercation with a suspect described as either a Hispanic or Black male. During the confrontation, the suspect produced a firearm and shot Fleeks before fleeing the scene on foot.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified a 16-year-old male as a suspect in the case. On August 3, 2023, this juvenile was arrested without incident and charged with capital murder. Due to his age, his identity and booking photo have not been released publicly.
Subsequent investigative efforts led to the identification of a second suspect, a 17-year-old male who was 16 at the time of the incident. He was taken into custody on August 14, 2023, and also charged with capital murder. As with the first suspect, his identity remains confidential because he is a juvenile.
Both suspects are currently in the custody of Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities, facing serious charges related to the death of Cameron Fleeks. The investigation underscores the Houston Police Department's commitment to pursuing justice for victims of violent crime.
