On March 22, 2019, Jacorey Dewayne Johnson, a 19-year-old Black male from Houston, Texas, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Streamside Drive and Gulf Bank Road in northwest Houston. According to reports, a suspect approached Jacorey and another 18-year-old male from behind as they were walking down the street. The assailant opened fire, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds to Jacorey, who collapsed and later succumbed to his injuries.
The other individual managed to escape unharmed and has been cooperating with investigators.
Jacorey was known for his intelligence, outgoing nature, and sense of humor. He attended Carver High School, where he formed many friendships and developed a passion for music. He aspired to provide a better life for his mother and was affectionately referred to as "KoKo" and "44 Baby" by those in the Acres Homes community. He is survived by his parents, siblings, grandparents, and numerous other family members and friends who cherished his memory.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Houston Police Department investigators obtained substantial home surveillance footage from the vicinity of the crime scene. The suspect was described as a short, thin, 18-year-old Black male wearing glasses. Despite having access to this evidence and following various leads, authorities have not publicly announced any arrests or identified suspects in connection with Jacorey's death. The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek information to bring those responsible to justice.
