On August 27, 2023, 30-year-old Sergeant Alfredo Martinez was found dead from a gunshot wound at Fort Cavazos, Texas. Initially, two fellow soldiers present at the scene reported that Martinez had died by suicide. However, discrepancies in their accounts and subsequent investigations led to doubts about this narrative.
