On October 22, 2023, just before midnight, a Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) patrol deputy was flagged down by a man on Wells Branch Parkway in north Travis County, Texas. The man directed the deputy to a red 2023 Nissan Sentra with front-end damage. Inside the vehicle's backseat, 29-year-old Nahiean Edwin Wright of Killeen was found unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Wright was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The individual who alerted the deputy was identified as 32-year-old George Nickerius Nolden from Waco. Nolden reportedly approached the deputy, requested to be handcuffed, and confessed to shooting Wright, claiming it was in self-defense after Wright allegedly became angry and pointed a gun at him. However, upon searching the vehicle, deputies found only one firearm along with several shell casings, contradicting Nolden's account of multiple weapons being present. Consequently, Nolden was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently held in Travis County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Wright was shot at a different location before the vehicle, showing signs of a recent collision, was found on Wells Branch Parkway. Authorities have confirmed that Wright and Nolden were acquainted prior to the incident.
