On September 26, 2023, at approximately 10:55 a.m., the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at the Greenbriar Apartments, located at 2319 Greenfield Parkway in Southeast Austin. Upon arrival, officers discovered 40-year-old Keith Bedford lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Bedford was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:12 a.m.

The initial investigation indicated that Bedford's death was Austin's 46th homicide of the year. APD detectives began gathering evidence, including surveillance footage and witness statements, to identify potential suspects. At that time, no arrests had been made, and authorities urged anyone with information to come forward.

Subsequent investigative efforts led to the identification of two suspects: 24-year-old Dekatur Dalon Richey, known as "DK," and 22-year-old Moses Wangobe Mohinga, known as "Big Youngster." APD obtained arrest warrants for both individuals in October 2023. On October 27, Mohinga was apprehended at an apartment complex on Ridgepoint Drive; he was found in possession of narcotics and a firearm at the time of his arrest. Richey was located on November 15 at an apartment complex on Metric Boulevard. After a three-hour standoff involving the Texas Department of Public Safety's SWAT team, Richey surrendered to authorities.

Both Richey and Mohinga were charged with murder in connection to Bedford's death and booked into the Travis County Jail, where they await further judicial proceedings. The arrests were the culmination of a collaborative effort between the APD and the U.S. Marshals' Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
