On November 21, 2023, 19-year-old Jagger Joshua Muñoz was fatally shot behind an apartment complex in the 6100 block of Whitby Road on San Antonio's Northwest Side. Witnesses reported hearing a disturbance before a single gunshot, after which Muñoz was found lying on the ground, having fallen from a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Muñoz had been in a vehicle with 33-year-old Rodolfo "Rudy" Hernandez III.
According to witness statements, Hernandez was attempting to sell a handgun to Muñoz when Muñoz allegedly attempted to rob him by drawing his own firearm. In response, Hernandez reportedly fired a single shot, striking Muñoz in the back, before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Hernandez went into hiding. In December 2023, San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers identified him as a suspect and sought public assistance in locating him. Nearly a year after the shooting, on October 25, 2024, Hernandez was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Bexar County Jail, bringing a significant development to the prolonged investigation.
Muñoz's death was a tragic loss to his family and community. Born on July 22, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas, he was remembered for his love of drawing, animals, dancing, and cooking. He is survived by his mother, Christina Muñoz, his brother, Michael Guevara, and other family members who mourn his untimely passing.
