On November 29, 2023, Garland police responded to a distressing 911 call from a man who claimed to have killed his wife and intended to take his own life. Officers arrived at the residence on the 1800 block of Vine Drive around 2:30 a.m. Inside, they discovered 65-year-old Luat Nguyen with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and in a separate room, his wife, 66-year-old Kim Phi Nguyen, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
