On October 28, 2022, 46-year-old African American male Kendrick De'Wone Williams Sr. drove his 21-year-old son, Dewone Williams, to the Shamrock gas station at the corner of Corinth Street and Morrell Avenue in Dallas, Texas. They were there so Dewone could meet his boss to collect a paycheck. Both father and son waited inside Kendrick's vehicle, a 2008 silver Dodge Charger, near gas pump number 4.
A family acquaintance, whose name has not been disclosed, approached the driver's side window and requested a ride home. Kendrick agreed, and the individual briefly walked away to the Motions convenience store, made a phone call, and then returned, entering the rear driver-side door of the Charger. Approximately one minute later, the individual exited through the rear passenger-side door, put on a hoodie, and walked east on Morrell Avenue.
The Charger remained parked for about an hour and 40 minutes before Dewone's mother and sister arrived and discovered both Kendrick and Dewone with gunshot wounds to their heads. Emergency services were called, but both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance footage from the gas station helped authorities quickly identify the suspect. Within an hour, the individual was arrested by the Dallas Police Department. During the trial, the suspect testified that the shootings were accidental, claiming the gun discharged twice during a struggle. The jury found this testimony unconvincing and subsequently convicted the individual of capital murder. The perpetrator was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Kendrick De'Wone Williams Sr. was born on October 8, 1976, in Henderson, Texas. He was known for his infectious smile and laugh, and he loved his family, cars, and the Dallas Cowboys. He worked as a chef at both the Spaghetti Warehouse and the Federal Building in downtown Dallas. He is survived by his children: Shamira Robertson, Kendrick De'Wone Williams Jr., and Kiara Nicole Williams; granddaughter, Adira Faye Hogan; and siblings: Brian Tramaine Williams, Delmica Ejoyce Williams, and Delmicia Joy Williams.
Tragically, Kendrick's son, 21-year-old African American male Dewone Atrelle Williams, also lost his life in the same incident. Dewone was born on February 11, 2001, in Dallas, Texas. He completed his education at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School and was known for being family-oriented, enjoying football, basketball, and spending time in the studio. He had recently started a job and was looking forward to his future.
The loss of both Kendrick and Dewone Williams has left a profound void in their family and community. Their memories are cherished by their loved ones, who remember them for their warmth, talents, and the joy they brought into the lives of those around them.
