On a Sunday evening in Fairfield, Alabama, the food court of the Western Hills Mall became the scene of a tragedy that claimed the life of an innocent bystander. Thirty-two-year-old Darin Marques Hall was at the mall on February 23, 2025, when an argument between two groups of people violently escalated. The dispute, which began with a verbal exchange, quickly turned deadly as gunfire erupted in the crowded public space.
Hall was not involved in the altercation but was tragically struck by a stray bullet.
Following the shooting, which occurred at approximately 5:00 p.m., another man, aged 21, was found at the scene with a gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Hall was taken to a separate hospital in a private vehicle, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office launched an immediate investigation into the homicide.
In the days that followed the fatal shooting, law enforcement identified a suspect in the case. Nineteen-year-old Tavion Jermaine Perry was arrested and taken into custody. He faces charges of murder for the death of Darin Marques Hall and attempted murder for the injury of the 21-year-old man. Perry is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond as he awaits legal proceedings. The community was left to mourn the senseless loss of a man who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
