On December 10, 2023, at approximately 11:25 p.m., Houston police officers responded to a shooting incident in the parking lot of an apartment complex located at 4700 Wenda Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 33-year-old Joshua Sanders with a gunshot wound. Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced Sanders deceased at the scene.
Initially, investigators had no leads regarding a motive or suspect in the case.
However, through further investigation, they identified 40-year-old Alvin Dean Banion as a suspect. On December 18, detectives interviewed Banion at a local hospital, where he admitted to his involvement in the shooting, citing a prior argument with Sanders as the catalyst for his actions. Subsequently, Banion was charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court.
As of December 19, 2023, Banion remained hospitalized, and a booking photo was not available. The specific reasons for his hospitalization were not disclosed.
