Carlos Iraheta, a 55-year-old male of Hispanic ethnicity, tragically lost his life on October 15, 2021, in Houston, TX. He was working as a store clerk at a Conoco convenience store when he was shot multiple times by Tyrick Nelson, a 20-year-old male, during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. at the 8300 block of Gulf Freeway and Bellfort Street near I-45 south.
Nelson entered the store and approached the counter as if he was going to make a purchase.
However, he then pulled out a pistol from his waistband and shot Iraheta several times. A witness inside the store immediately called 911, and another witness saw Nelson fleeing the scene and getting into a black vehicle across the street. Responding officers were able to locate the vehicle and pursued Nelson in a short car and foot chase. During the chase, evidence was recovered that linked Nelson to the shooting. Nelson was eventually captured and taken into custody without further incident.
Following the incident, Iraheta was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased on October 17, 2021. Nelson was charged with capital murder and was taken into custody on October 20, 2021. The case was handled by the Houston Police Department's Robbery Division, and Nelson was charged in the 184th State District Court.
