On December 26, 2023, the bodies of 22-year-old Matthew Guerra and his 18-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Savanah Soto, were discovered inside a gray Kia Optima parked at the Colinas at Medical Apartments on Danny Kaye Drive in San Antonio, Texas. Both had sustained gunshot wounds to the head, and Soto was nine months pregnant at the time of her death.

Investigations revealed that the couple had been missing since December 22, 2023, after failing to appear for Soto's scheduled labor induction. Authorities believe they were killed on or about December 21, 2023, and that their bodies were moved to the location where they were found.

In early January 2024, San Antonio police arrested 19-year-old Christopher Preciado, charging him with capital murder. His father, 53-year-old Ramon Preciado, was charged with abuse of a corpse for allegedly assisting in moving the bodies. Later, on January 10, 2024, Preciado's stepmother, 47-year-old Myrta Romanos, was also arrested and faced charges including altering/destroying a human corpse, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.

According to arrest affidavits, Christopher Preciado admitted to meeting with Guerra and Soto for a marijuana transaction. He claimed that Guerra brandished a firearm, leading to the shootings; however, detectives noted inconsistencies in his account, particularly concerning the victims' gunshot wounds.

As of December 2024, all three suspects remain in custody, awaiting trial. Bond reduction requests for Ramon Preciado and Myrta Romanos have been denied. The Bexar County District Attorney's Office has not yet announced whether it will seek the death penalty against Christopher Preciado.

The families of Matthew Guerra and Savanah Soto continue to mourn their loss, seeking justice for the couple and their unborn child. Vigils and memorials have been held in their honor, with loved ones expressing deep grief and a desire for closure as the legal process unfolds.
