On February 10, 2024, in Beaumont, Texas, the lives of 26-year-old Briana Monroe and her 1-year-old son, Giavon Ira Curley August, came to a tragic end in an apparent murder-suicide. The sequence of events began when Monroe sent a distressing text message to the father of one of her children, indicating her intention to harm herself and her son. Alarmed, he contacted Monroe's family, who were also unable to reach her, prompting them to report her and Giavon as missing persons to the Beaumont
Police Department.
Utilizing cell phone tracking, both the family and law enforcement traced Monroe's location to the vicinity of the Beaumont Municipal Airport. The search culminated when a family member discovered Monroe's gray 2019 Volkswagen Jetta parked at Perlstein Park, located at 800 Landis Drive in the Amelia neighborhood. Inside the vehicle, authorities found Monroe deceased in the driver's seat and young Giavon in the backseat, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.
Family members revealed that Monroe had been battling sickle cell anemia, a condition that caused her significant pain. Despite this, they expressed profound shock and confusion over the tragic events, noting that Monroe was a mother to two other young boys and was known for her joyful spirit and love for trail riding.
