On July 29, 2023, 38-year-old Corry Demarcus Beckett of Beaumont, Texas, was fatally shot at a Shell gas station on Major Drive. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Jaye Vincent Normand, also of Beaumont, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Witnesses reported that Normand fled the scene immediately after the shooting but returned shortly thereafter, at which point he was taken into custody by law enforcement.
