Phillips was born on March 10, 1987, in Orange, Texas, and was known for his love of cars, car racing, and working in sales with Allied Prudential in Beaumont. He was a member of the Power of Praise Christian Center in Orange and was dearly loved by his family and friends.

The investigation revealed that Adam Emanuel Fuller, a 29-year-old acquaintance of Phillips, was responsible for the shooting. Fuller confessed to shooting Phillips in the head and stealing several thousand dollars in cash, an iPhone, and other property from the deceased.
Fuller was arrested shortly after the incident and later pleaded guilty to murder. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison for his crime. The case was investigated by the Beaumont Police Department with assistance from the Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney’s office.
